Comments Thread For: HBO and The Good Ol' Days Mythology

By Cliff Rold - Well, a big heavyweight announcement is made. Unfortunately, it's not the one anyone cared about. There is still no final word on whether Wladimir Klitschko will challenge Anthony Joshua before year's end. Fingers remain crossed. In the meantime, interim WBA titlist has found a network home for his next appearance...

Don't actually give much of a fuck who airs the fights as long as they get aired, between Boxnation and the internet I get all I need, but it hasn't been a great year. Can't help but agree about the rose tinted specs though, really good fights are between top competitors are fairly rare and always have been... and then we got Kovalev - Ward which is - in terms of significance at least if not popularity- the equal of anything that I can think of in the last decade, perhaps longer .... and that includes May - Pac IMO.

For all the criticism that PBC gets, HBO has not done much better in last 3 years!

ODLH vs Chaptier was a disgrace and they filled a stadium in Texas with women. It was a popularity contest and not an actually boxing event

Jones vs Frasier was another disgrace, but he was ranked

HBO is merely a corporation they don't care about boxing, they aren't purists, they don't owe us anything as we don't them, the sooner we realize that the sooner we stop mystifying them as a holy grail

Eh.. If you're an HBO subscriber, they certainly do owe you something. That's why boxing fans give them money, in exchange for quality boxing matches.
