Sucks that Salido is out. Personally I would see if Vargas has recovered from his cuts and see if the rematch between he and Miura can be made. If not move Salido vs Miura to next year. Possibly as the Co Main Event to Canelos return fight in January or February.

Golden Boy needs to have a strong undercard since both guys are from the east coast.

How about Jo Jo Diaz vs Ronnie Rios, and Antonio Orozco vs Frankie Gomez?
I like the idea of seeing what Vargas' deal is. A Miura/Vargas rematch would more than make up for losing the Salido fight.

This guy Smith sounds like a very dangerous opponent. I hope Hopkins beats him in style and then retires for keeps.

I was in a rush typing on a cell phone and it came out messed up. That should read that I DO want to see more of Joe Smith, obviously.

Decent fight for a 51 year old, especially since Smith upset Fonfora

Though I don't understand how Hopkins farewell fight is in California, vs another NY boxer at that. Two East Coast boxers having a main event in the West Coast sounds like the promoter is asking for bad gate. They have to have at least a Mexican in the undercard

Smith lost once by KO about 7 years ago and hasn't lost since. He KOed Fanfara so he is the real deal. I pray Hopkins beats him and retires for good.
Hmmm. Derrick Findley also KOd Andrej, is he the 'real deal' too? Nah, Smith can ****, sure, but he looked outclassed against Fonfara, at least to my eyes. Andrej thought he had the kid hurt and got sloppy is all. It happens.

IMO, any fight for a man in his 50's is a decent fight. How many people in their 50's even spar, let alone fight as a headline on a main card? I don't care how skilled or in shape he is, it's a dangerous fight. He's almost as old as my parents. Hell hes old enough to be my pops. I wasn't even born when he turned professional.

And yeah it being held on the west coast seems weird to me. Not a lot of venues available at that time perhaps? HBO's on a tight budget. Maybe they can't afford what's being asked by big east coast venues?
