  • Comments Thread For: Bellew: I Smashed Haye To Bits in Sparring, He Dropped To a Knee!

WBC cruiserweight champion Tony Bellew insists that he really busted up David Haye in a sparring session several years ago. Haye was sitting ringside at the Echo Arena in Liverpool and watched his close friend BJ Flores get knocked out in three rounds by Bellew (28-2-1, 18KOs) - who was making the first defense of the title he captured back in May in Goodison Park with a brutal third round knockout of Ilunga Makabu. Flores was knocked down four times before the contest was waved off.

From what I remember, Haye was not even training seriously at that period. He was partying and living it up, probably with Flores

It's not that unlikely really. They could have been at different stages of training. Bellew obviously has good power and he was a 2 time national amateur champion at heavyweight.

I still think Haye is too powerful for him right now though.

Something must have happened in sparring cos Bellew's confidence in this fight must be coming from somewhere.

To the average fan it looks like a mismatch...like why the **** would Bellew want to fight him. But Bellew seems very confident in fighting Haye so something must have happened behind the scenes.

Personally think Haye will spark him but Bellew most definitely fancies his chances...would love to see it.
