Stephen Edwards, the trainer of IBF junior middleweight mandatory challenger Julian "J-Rock" Williams, had his doubts that his fighter would ever get a shot at current titilist Jermall Charlo - but it appears he will after all. Edwards told ****** yesterday that both sides have come to an agreement and that a formal announcement could come sometime this week.
"The fight is done," Edwards said in a phone interview. "Both sides have agreed. As far as an exact date, I'm really not sure. I guess they're waiting to announce it — sometime in December."
An unidentified source also said that the fight is likely to be held on December 19th on Showtime with the venue still to be determine (with the MGM Grand and the Barclays Center among those in consideration).
Both are good athletes, both have skills and both seem dedicated.
Been following J-Rock for a few years and was a fan almost instantly. Even if he doesnt end up as good as I think he is I just love the style. All the little tricks and moves he pulls he seems like vet at the end of his career not a green 25yr old.
Charlo I only started watching more recently but he's a beast. Struggled a bit vs Trout but it was his first true step up so can be forgiven. I still thought he won clearly.
Just wanna watch this fight. Keep flip flopping on who I think will win. Williams has looked great vs the jabbers he has fought so far, he counters well, changes the range and slips inside well (pretty good once he gets inside too) but Charlo is much better in every way to the fighters hes been fighting.
Right now leaning towards to Williams. Probably change my mind again soon
