Not a big fan of Wilder as a fighter but always thought he was a decent person.

When he knew his daughter spina bifida, he realise he had to really make something of himself to give her the best life possible. That lead to taking up boxing seriously, getting an olympic medal, turning pro and winning a world title. Whatever you think of his boxing or level of opposition or whatever else, you have to at least respect that.

I've seen sit down interviews on TV with Wilder and he is a damn likeable and decent person. Very warm approach to people. The kind of guy who would stop and talk to anyone for a good while on the street if they approach him.
