    Al Haymon's biggest mistake

Haymon's biggest mistake in boxing has been his naivete. He comes from a cutthroat industry full of big egos that are fed by adulation and praise. In order to get those egos feed they must keep producing good music and putting on great shows. When he got into boxing he ran into a fighter with the biggest ego in the game. Floyd is built from the Jordan/Kobe cloth. God gifted talent but will outwork anyone in the gym. You don't get to be 49-0, five linear titles, champion for 17 of his 19 years as a pro, only lose on one scorecard in 49 fights, by cherry picking. A lot of factors have to come into play to amass a record like that. The most important factor is preparing yourself for any situation and being serious about the sport. Wlad's 11 year reign didn't come because the HW division was so weak. He lost to worst fighters than he beat during his 11 year reign. Dominance like that comes from hard work and dedication.

One thing I noticed about Haymon/PBC is if you're willing to fight your gonna get fights. Guerrero is the most active fighter since PBC began. Porter has been in the biggest fights since PBC began. Even fighters who suffered a setback loss have been active, like Tony Harrison. If you wanna fight, you're gonna get fights.

Haymon has to realize that most of his guys aren't self motivated like Floyd. Garcia is the perfect example. He had the potential to be the next big thing and he's blown it by refusing to fight tough competition. He doesn't have that self motivation to be the best. Khan is another one. He wants the adulation of a Mayweather but doesn't want to put in the work. He only wants big fights but doesn't want to earn them. He's even said his goal is to be an international superstar, that's why he's based in America instead of the UK where he won his silver medal. He took the fight with Canelo hoping he'd look good enough to get praise for trying. Instead he became a meme. Looking back on it Haymon should've never allowed him to take that fight.

It seems like Haymon is naive when it comes to his fighters. He give them the freedom to make bad decisions for their career. A lot of his fighters need direction. To many meaningless fights that don't build towards anything. Jacobs is a perfect example. Beat Mora in 2 rds, beat Quillin in one rd, and went ghost, only to come back to fight Mora again.

Haymon needs to lay down the law and get these guys in line. Everybody isn't going to be as dedicated and self motivated as Floyd.

He has been paying them too much. Angel Garcia even said why fight a tough fight when you can fight a Salka for the same money.

Uncle Al needs to lay down the law and make these guys fight each other, you are right.

Hang on. Jacobs didn't pick Mora 2, he even said he didn't really want it. That means Haymon must have picked it, or signed off on it at least.

With regards to the rest, thank you for saying what everyone else has been saying for years. I know now Floyd has said it, it's a legit thing. Before last night, it was just "hating". But now Floyd says these fighters are being over-paid, we know it's for real.

He didn't pick Mora but he had no other options. They put all of their eggs into the Andy Lee basket. Before the fight Jacobs was on Showtime with the crew talking about fighting Andy Lee. Lee is promoted by DiBella in the U.S. When Lee lost they went after Saunders. We all know how many fights Saunders turned down this year. Then they tried to make the Lee fight again. That's who he was supposed to fight in July. He may not have picked Mora but he didn't have any other options left.

And nowhere in my post did I say the fighters are getting paid to much. Guerrero gets paid a million a fight and he's the most active fighter since PBC started. It's the motivation that's lacking.

Idk if Haymon is being naive. I think the thing is he's in a position where he can't be a promoter & a manager without f#cking up his whole game.

And he's never been a promoter so he does the managing thus he is still getting fighters the best fights for the best money for the least risk which is a managers job basically. That leads to a lot of what we see.

I suspect if Slick Ricky hadn't been taken out of the game before PBC got off the ground or if Haymon & Ricky had managed to purchase GBP things would look a lot different with Haymon managing & Ricky promoting & probably a lot of the "sham promoters lol" wouldn't be around now which just complicates things since the major names with Haymon don't have multiple fight promotional deals.

I think we all agreed that Danny getting a million for Salka would create problems.

Haymon's trying to change the boxing game; there are inherent risks, and it's a messy process, but he's taking his shot.

Errol Spence Jr is being moved along at a pretty aggressive pace, as is Robert Easter Jr, and a host of other fighters (like Pritchard Colon, before his injury).

Daniel Jacobs is being lined up to fight Gennady Golovkin before Christmas.

Haymon has the TV dates, Haymon has the fighters, and fighters are going to need to fight (now or at some point in the future).

2017 is just around the corner, and there are a ton of fights that simply have to be made.
