Haymon's biggest mistake in boxing has been his naivete. He comes from a cutthroat industry full of big egos that are fed by adulation and praise. In order to get those egos feed they must keep producing good music and putting on great shows. When he got into boxing he ran into a fighter with the biggest ego in the game. Floyd is built from the Jordan/Kobe cloth. God gifted talent but will outwork anyone in the gym. You don't get to be 49-0, five linear titles, champion for 17 of his 19 years as a pro, only lose on one scorecard in 49 fights, by cherry picking. A lot of factors have to come into play to amass a record like that. The most important factor is preparing yourself for any situation and being serious about the sport. Wlad's 11 year reign didn't come because the HW division was so weak. He lost to worst fighters than he beat during his 11 year reign. Dominance like that comes from hard work and dedication.
One thing I noticed about Haymon/PBC is if you're willing to fight your gonna get fights. Guerrero is the most active fighter since PBC began. Porter has been in the biggest fights since PBC began. Even fighters who suffered a setback loss have been active, like Tony Harrison. If you wanna fight, you're gonna get fights.
Haymon has to realize that most of his guys aren't self motivated like Floyd. Garcia is the perfect example. He had the potential to be the next big thing and he's blown it by refusing to fight tough competition. He doesn't have that self motivation to be the best. Khan is another one. He wants the adulation of a Mayweather but doesn't want to put in the work. He only wants big fights but doesn't want to earn them. He's even said his goal is to be an international superstar, that's why he's based in America instead of the UK where he won his silver medal. He took the fight with Canelo hoping he'd look good enough to get praise for trying. Instead he became a meme. Looking back on it Haymon should've never allowed him to take that fight.
It seems like Haymon is naive when it comes to his fighters. He give them the freedom to make bad decisions for their career. A lot of his fighters need direction. To many meaningless fights that don't build towards anything. Jacobs is a perfect example. Beat Mora in 2 rds, beat Quillin in one rd, and went ghost, only to come back to fight Mora again.
Haymon needs to lay down the law and get these guys in line. Everybody isn't going to be as dedicated and self motivated as Floyd.
