Understanding Mexican Boxing Culture / why Alvarez vs GGG does 1.6million PPV

Alvarez represents the torch after Money May, in the sense that some haters will still pay to see him lose, but at the same time a secretive feeling that if he wins they're still happy. I mean at the very least they get to see a technical fighter do his thing like the last great Marquez before him.

Now keep in mind that the Mexican fanbase has many divides within themselves. You have the same demographic that were mixed on PPV purchases and others who were solely dedicated to Marquez, Barrera, Morales, Chavez Sr., Oscar, a little of both (mixed) Why? Territorial feuds, and the pride of Mexican states and its provinces. Realistically, most Mexican fans will always support their countrymen no matter what, but JCC Sr., Jr., and even Marquez haven't been fond of Alvarez over the years. It's like NY vs Philly vs Detroit... There are many loyal fans dedicated to the words of Chavez Sr., so whenever Sr. talks on ESPN and usually negative about Alvarez, those fans buy into it, or even Marquez's fanbase as well.

Alvarez is without a doubt that next gen. Mexican star, and even those who are dedicated to Chavez Sr. or Marquez, who don't like Alvarez, still feel a sense of pride whether they like it or nor. I'm referring to Mexican views atm too, not American sales. It's really important to understand the metrics of Mexican tv ratings. Lots of cash in their TV industry, lots! So when you see Akron Petrol on Alvarez shorts or Tecate....that stuff matters! Again, we're only referring to the country of Mexico, not stateside metrics and those fans. When they aired Mayweather vs Alvarez it was almost as good as their championship soccer games prepped up like the Superbowl, so don't think PPV is the only outlet for Mexicans to make. Of course PPV matters because American dollar benefits any Mexican more than own currency.

Given all the circumstances Alvarez has gone through since his loss to Mayweather, now let's talk about the GGG vs Alvarez theme. EVERYBODY's talking about it. It's the fight everyone wants to see, including Alvarez's own Mexican fanbase and its haters. This theme has been 10x more amplified than the Cotto bout and about 2x more than the May bout.

There's also a huge base of fans that don't understand purse bids, politics, a-side vs b-side, so those casuals rely on ducking themes because they don't understand any other reason.

When the time comes, GBP will do an excellent job promoting this fight as well as industry. It will safely be north of 1.6million. EASILY.

Not a troll thread. But I should've detailed that the longer this fight gets delayed the less creditable it can be, however, not so sure it will still affect PPV... 2017 imo is the last stand, Loeffler and Abel say 2018...I think Golovkin has one more year to be tip top for what people enjoy seeing now. If Golovkin loses in 2017 or 2018 I'm not sure the PPV can be so good.
