Golovkin's promoter says they need a purse bid.

Let's say Showtime tells Haymon to buy the fight.

If Golovkin refuses to fight on Showtime he loses the WBA belt.

This happened to Quillin and he was humiliated.

It would be devastating for his career if Golovkin dropped any of his belts after taking so long to get this far, especially when he will be getting 75% of any potential purse bid. I'd say it's more likely that Jacobs vacates if the purse bid is not high enough so that his 25% share is less than what he is asking for. Jacobs will only be losing his regular title anyway, which is far less than Golovkin has to lose.
