  • Comments Thread For: Parker's Promoter: Right Now Andy Ruiz is The Best Option

Joseph Parker's promoter Dean Lonergan is 95% sure of reaching an agreement for a December 10th fight with Andy Ruiz - which is going to take place in Auckland. The vacant WBO title would be at stake in the fight, depending on what happens in the next week or so.

this will get very interesting if a lawsuit breaks out over that WBO belt

If Joshua and Vlad get it on [which they won't]. WBO will definitely forgo their rules to get involved. The sanctioning fee on it will just blow away the fee for Parker vs Ruiz.

WBO would be ****** to break their own rule IMO, they look bad and sure Wlad/Joshua is a big fight but Parker as reigning WBO champ vs winner is not a small fight and WBO improves its reputation a bit

Yeah. I'm doubtful Joshua and Vlad sign on the dotted line - and I certainly don't believe anything Hearn says. He could talk about something I saw with my own eyes, and I'd start to doubt it.

The "Championship Committee" clause with the WBO enabling them to make the best "business decision", effectively says they can do whatever they want regardless of the rankings.

          Common sense says #1 v #3 beats #2 and Unranked, but... $$$

The wbo rules are difficult to understand especially in this situation however they do have the "unification trumps mandatory" rule like the IBF

Not sure how that figures in this situation

You are right, and even though I haven't had much love for Vlad over the years, I think he could rightly say that he has given enough to the sanctioning bodies over the years to at least get another crack at winning back the belts, especially considering his fight with Fury has been scratched twice due to non-Vlad related issues. If the Joshua/Vlad fight does happen by some miracle, I reckon Vlad will retire win or lose and the outcome for Parker will be effectively the same anyway.

Wlad is ranked #2 for the WBO title... He will not pick Joshua for the IBF, when he can when a purse bid, bring Parker to Germany for the WBO title. Duco Events can cut the Parker - Ruiz talk out and think about Wlad vs Parker!!!!

I agree with you there bud - whether or not fans like Wlad, his style, his dominance, whatever - he's been a servant of the sport and if there is anyone who deserves to be given a little love by boxing orgs, it's him.

I can definitely see him retiring win or lose, spot on.

Parker is in a good spot regardless - being the IBF mandatory, and the WBO #1, he's got options. Options are a really, really nice thing to have in boxing.

I'd rather see the WBO title put on the Joshua-Wlad fight. Just seems better for the division for the strap to be on one of the top 3 guys.

I don't rate Parker or Ruiz that highly, Parker looks to be better so far but Ruiz has talent despite the Butterbean body type. In the case of Parker, he has a set of balls so if he won he'd probably want to unify before too long. With Ruiz though his career has stood still for years and it can't all be the fault of manager/promoters/injuries. If he beats Parker I could see a situation where he follows it up with defences against bums and then prices himself out against everyone else. Kinda like the BJS of the heavyweight division.
