Separately, they have put on really good shows for their prospects but mostly crap for their top tier fighters. Working together seems to be the only way they can advance the careers of their top fighters.

Bradley, Broner, LSC, Spence, Crawford, Loma, Russell, Figueroa, Ramirez, Jack, Valdez, Verdejo have limited ceilings unless Arum and haymon work with each other.

I am looking forward to 2017 but I will not get too excited.

Very sensible/optimistic perspective. IDK who wouldnt want to see Top Ranks guys like Loma, Valdez, Saul Rodriguez, Crawford, Postol, Bradely etc match up against Santa Cruz, Cuellar, Mares, Broner, Porter, Thurman etc...

Up until the HBO gravy train gave him the stiff arm, Bob Arum was the one who didn't want to see it.

There are reasons we are at this point.

No idea how good Gvozdyk is; Isaac Chilemba is as good a gauge test as any.
If Gvozdyk has a good showing against Chilemba on HBO PPV on that undercard, that could get HBO interested in Gvozdyk, regardless of whether he's the mandatory or not.

If he wins that fight, and he has a high ranking to go along with wins over Chilemba, Karpency and Mohammadi that's a pretty good case for him to get an HBO fight with the winner of Kovalev/Ward sometime next year.

HBO is the elephant in the room. If they do not put more resources toward the sport and then keep restricting their signed fighters then we as fans will suffer.

which is why the best thing for fans long term is for HBO to exit the boxing business.

do you see any UFC fans complaining that the top stars are controlled by one promoter instead of a dozen?

do you see any NFL fans complaining that the top stars are controlled by one league instead of a dozen?

haymon is attempting to gain full control of US boxing. it's a slow process. there are going to be growing pains. it's going to cost hundreds of millions of dollars to pull off (if he can pull it off).

but killing off HBO boxing is an essential part of the process. if HBO quit boxing tomorrow, boxing fans would benefit in a major way.

Good. Bob has burned many bridges and needs all the friends he can get.

Desperate times call for desperate measures.

Plus we can get some good fights from it

Sadly I'm beginning to think this is the case. Tim hasn't been the same since he took that beating from Provodnikov. Bradley was a damn good fighter in his prime. It's much too bad we never got the chance to see him son Khan or Garcia..
