Clinching won't matter. To clinch Ward is going to get close to Kovalev, Kovalev is longer and stronger, if Ward gets close he's getting KO'd.
His only chance is to stay as far back as possible and literally run (not box, I mean run) around the ring for 12 rounds, 36 minutes and avoid 400-500 punches coming his direction from Kovalev, while landing enough potshots to score points (and even then he'd only be scoring MORE points if he successfully evades every Kovalev punch)
Sounds tough, right? Exactly, which is why a Ward victory would literally have to be the absolute best boxing performance for 36 minutes in the sports history. (and would make him a top 3 fighter of ALL time, IMHO).
If he doesn't manage to accomplish that, (which he won't, because once he feels Kovalev's power I promise you he will be in survival mode all night, he won't care about winning anymore, just getting out of the ring in one piece)- his glass chin is getting broken.
So, essentially, as you can see, he basically has less then a 1% chance of winning. It's almost statistically impossible. Now- don't take this as one of those "dude wtf YDKSAB this is a 50/50 fight, best fight of the year!!!" It absolutely IS not only the fight of the year, but the fight of the decade. Winner is P4P king, obviously. The thing is that, it just simply isn't "50/50" as you can see- a fight can be super important but be one-sided, and that's what this will be. Obviously not because Andre Ward is overrated, he is sublime. But because Kovalev is just that damn good.
(no bias, really)
