If he's just being honest then, fair enough. Never easy to get a read on Freddy because he casually mixes honest evaluation with a dose of the obligatory promotional bs.
This is Roach being Roach. Selling the fight as the trainer. It's their way to sell, as you said (as well as I picked up on), they have used the same concepts for previous fights.

I am not a huge fan of Manny, but the premise of this article is absolutely ridiculous, and unfair to the fighter
Yep. Roach has always talked too much, just like Arum has said about him for a while now. Just like pitchers need to keep their tricks to themselves, Freddie needs to talk less. Manny these days talks too much as well, although not so much about boxing. Like some others have said here, Roach is probably just helping to sell a fight that most likely won't do so much on PPV otherwise. But still, there are ways to do that without this time of blabbering away.

Roach has always been a great matchmaker and a good promoter for Pac. He obviously has his promoter hat on in this interview, trying to make the readers believe Vargas has a chance because Pac looks sluggish

I tend to take most things trainers say with a pinch of salt.
One day though, he is going to look slow and sluggish in camp. Time catches up with everyone. Hopefully by then he hangs them up, as it sucks to see a fighter keep going and struggle in fights he would normally walk through.

              This is it.

Or when he's in with a real live opponent, then Roach says Pac has his killer instinct back to sell the fight.

              Whichever fits.

Pac should already be retired by now. He's got nothing left to prove and he's been in decline for a while.

Maybe he does, but I remember Roach always talking about Pacquiao obliterating his sparring partners. It was just a week ago, I think, that we heard how great Pac looks.

Roach is following his universal handbook on "How to Sell ****ty Fights" step by step.
