I think you missed the point. I didn't say that fighters didn't go up in weight before Manny. What is new is the current obsession by some fans on the importance of going up in weight. And lets not forget about Bob Fitzsimons, Sam Langford, Hank Armstrong, SRR and many others.

Again the point is the ridiculous obsession that some fans have about going up in weight. There was no criticism of Hagler for not going up. There was no criticism of Hopkins about not going up.
