I'm buying my first PPV because of this fight... I don't know if I fall into the category of a hardcore fan, but it may do better than many think..

Is as good a fight that can be made. Hopefully, HBO and Duva do a good job of promoting it since each guy isn't necessarily a great salesman.

They better damn well start hyping this fight soon. It's weird how a fight of this magnitude (to the boxing hardcore) seems to be creating so few ripples amongst the casual viewership. We'll see how they start pushing it in the next few weeks, but it could be they don't wanna throw that much money at it cos they know hyping it ain't gonna change the figures that much - the hardcores will buy it whatever and the casuals not so much.

I think they should play every angle though. Air Rocky IV and Creed with promos in the breaks, sell Dre as the All American Hero and Sergei as the Ice Cold Russian beast, whatever it takes.

I too have been surprised by how little promotion I have seen but it is still September. I expect the hype to pick up after Oct 15th or so. The Election and college football is swallowing up all the valuable air time.

I just hope they don't promote this fight like Holmes/Cooney. I think we've had enough of that kind of crap recently.

The PPV model of selling boxing has shot itself in the foot so many times. I don't know if casuals are even interested in shelling out $70 for a fight with guys they have heard of, much less guys they haven't heard of. See what happens when you put on a fight with worthy fighters that nobody has heard of.....Crawford/Postol. Take into account that Ward has been known to stink out the joint. I don't think this fight breaks even. Neither one of these guys has built a reputation of a Mayweather/Pacquaio or a Hagler/Hearns. Ward was certainly on his way until he sued his way into oblivion. and since then has faced 3 stiffs in a row. All I can say is "Good Luck".
