Comments Thread For: Kovalev Admits: I Hadn't Watched Andre Ward Much Before 2016

Sergey Kovalev (30-0, 26KOs) thinks highly of Andre Ward (30-0, 15KOs), but he hadn't thought about him that often before the past year.

Well you'd better study his fights pretty damn hard, comrade.

It's all lies. This is what all fighters always say. 'I haven't watched the fight' yet if you ask them something specific about the fight they will give you details. Make no mistake about it, the moment a rumour went there could be a fight against Ward he watched everyone of his fights. They then start studying his style to pick up habits. All these fighters do it yet they are boxing historians like Uncle Roger.

Nor does he have to. Kovalev with the tools he possesses, is enough to overcome a lack of even 1000000s of hours of footage on anybody, yet alone Andre Ward.

Kovalev could go into a fight with a prime RJJ, after waking up out of bed in his underwear, without ever even hearing who RJJ is while RJJ jumps on top of him in bed with no gloves on and Kovalev is sleeping with literally pillows on his fist, and he'd still put that work on RJJ and knock him out.

Easy work Kovalev. #2 more months

James Toney used to say that and I believed him. He said that there's no point in studying an opponent as the opponent can change his style on the fight night. Much better to force the opponent to fight your fight.

If Ward was a concussive puncher knocking everyone out you'd expect Kovalev to watch his fights. But watching Ward fights is not much entertainment, so I believe him.

A prime RGG would easily dispatch Kovalev.
