I think he's one of the most popular. Maybe 3rd in the US behind Canelo and Manny. Actually, he might be behind Cotto too.
Career-wise, he's coming up to a wall because he's getting older, but has failed to impress in terms of opposition. Taking tougher fights at the END of your career is a dangerous thing.

I think he'll end up with a Calzaghe legacy (without the national backing of proud countrymen). He'll be seen as a guy who was very talented and exciting to watch, but never truly impressed. I know some people will say GTFO because Joe at least beat Kessler and Hopkins who are well above GGG's resume, but still, I think the general sentiment will be the same.

He speaks 4 languages and is on a huge KO streak.

Globally, he is probably the most popular boxer at the moment.

You're missing an option. "Cab driver" - because that's what people would think he is in airports.

So it's Canelo, GGG, and everyone else basically.... Think about the divisions and who can you say is more well known? None of the small guys, 130-135 nobody, 140 Broner is popular and Crawford is coming up, 147 Garcia,Thurman not in GGG level of popularity, 154 nobody close, 160-168 nobody,175 Ward and Kovalev but they're not that popular, cruiser- nobody... Heavyweight you have guys from all over the globe who are popular amongst their people... Joshua, Fury,Klichtko,Wilder..all varying in popularity..

I'm not too sure, I think it's like this: Active fighters in the world:

                    Top 15 spots

                    Pacquiao
Canelo (Big seller via Mexican fanbase)
                    Cotto
                    (JMM?)
                    Joshua (biggest seller in England)
                    DSG
                    Bradley
                    GGG
Tied: Ward, Kovalev, Wilder, Wlad, Fury, Thurman
                    Tied: Haye, Broner
                    Tied: Brook, Khan
                    Tied: Porter, Lara, Crawford

Things will start changing up after November, and since GGG is getting exposed as someone who doesn;t take challenges, he will drop in popularity

Even if you take away all the semi-retired guys, Golovkin is still nowhere near their name level..

He may be top 5 current guys, but that's just how far boxing has fallen.. A decade ago guys that were the 5-10 biggest draws were much bigger than ggg is today
