  • How Popular Is Golovkin? Forget PPVs, Let's not Troll, How Popular Is He?

Most people claim he is the most popular. Abel said when he grows into popularity he's going to HAVE TO move up. When? In his late 30s? Isn't youth to a boxer's advantage? Moving up is best before your 40s? Or does Bhop set the example?

He's not a big draw if that's what you mean. Golovkin got a late start as a pro which is common for Eastern Europeans and he was virtually unknown in the US up until 4 years ago. He's only popular among hardcore fans.

Okso Australia is a TINY boxing market in a relative sense

GGG is well known here and a regular subject of articles in the sports pages and I have no doubt that he would pack a stadium if he fought a half decent local

Canelo, on the other hand, is a virtual nobody who is literally only mentioned in the mainstream press as somebody that has ducked GGG or as part of the results section when he fights

In short, Canelo might be insanely popular among his fanbase but even GGG is more of a cross-over star and I'm sure that situation is replicated in many countries outside the US and Mexico

                No one cares about Australia.

Doubt it. I'm a GGG fan but by no means do I think he's the most popular. I do think he's more popular than guys like Broner, Garcia, Crawfrod, Thurman etc...I'd put him a bit below Cotto.
