Ring rates Canelo #1 @154 after defeating Liam Smith, also still holds Lineal MW belt

    That's quite interesting.

Canelo beats #8 Ring ranked Liam Smith and now gets ranked #1 at 154, ahead of Lara, Andrade and the Charlos.

Canelo also still holds the lineal MW title, even though he never fought at 160, never beat a legit MW and his last 2 defenses were against Amir Khan, a Welterweight and Liam Smith a Junior MW.

    The Ring Policy states

Here are the situations in which a champion can lose his belt:

    - The Champion moves to another weight class.

Pretty clear that Canelo will be promoted as Lineal Middleweight Champion who is also #1 at 154. Gives Canelo alot of leverage in future fights.

Do you think these Ring Ratings are legitimate and fair? Does Canelo still deserve to hold the Ring MW Belt? Does Canelo deserve to be ranked #1 at 154?

Newsflash - nothing in boxing is fair, by the book, or morally correct.

The Ring is just another opinion - one of millions. Everyone has one.

    Good thread, though.

Well, he has beaten three of the guys in the top 10(4 if you include Cotto). Who else deserves to be in front of him?

And he is still the lineal Champ at 160. I hate the fact that he is, but he technically is.

Point is he should lose his belt because he moved to a different weight class.

Those are the perks of being promoted by the the owner of ****** tho.

Edit: Ring Tv is censored? lol

Two of these fights were at MW and a MW belt was at stake. Only fights at 154 were Trout and Liam Smith.

You also think Canelo should still hold the lineal MW Title?

Canelo should be stripped of the title when Golovkin vs jacobs is made. There's no reason for Canelo to be able to hold the belt hostage while the universal #1 and #2 fighters in the division will be fighting at the end of the year.

Especially since Canelo has said several times he isn't a Middleweight, vacated his championship, and is now ranked at 154lbs.

The fans should protest Ring and TRBR and let them know that we the fans expect Golovkin vs Jacobs to establish a new lineage in the division.

It's really ****ty, but I personally have any problems with it. Canelo has previously beaten the current #1 (Lara), and he now holds a title. That's enough to make him the #1 @ 154.

The Lineal should stay with the guy who won it. Even if we put a huge ass asterisk next to it, Canelo is still the lineal MW champion. In order for an active fighter to lose the belt, he needs to not fight at the weight for a significant period of time. One year is definitely not long enough for that IMO.
