  • Comments Thread For: Thurman: Brook Made Big Mistake Not Facing Puncher Before GGG

On September 10th, Kell Brook (36-1, 25KOs) surprised many with how competitive he was against Gennady Golovkin (36-0, 33KOs) before getting stopped in 5 rounds. Brook, who holds the IBF welterweight title, jumped up two weight classes to face the hard hitting GGG for the IBF/IBO/WBA/WBC middleweight belts.

Not only should he fought a puncher, but a couple of tune up fights in that division would had help him deal with the weight.

Photo of Brook on the floor was a result of a slip. Otherwise he hardly looked as if he was going to be knocked down but probably would have been stopped on his feet if the fight had gone a few more rounds

Good post! You shouldn't go from fighting Jo Jo Dan, Frankie Gavin, and Kevin Bizier @ 147, straight to GGG @ 160! Money Grab!

Kell Brook is 30 yrs old. He wasn't thinkin about tuneups or guys like keith thurman. He's takin the biggest money fights he can get at this point in his career and GGG happened to be the highest payin guy who would sign at the time.

Brook may be damaged goods going forward now, I doubt he'll have the stomach for middle weight after having had his face brutally sodomised it don't see it as advisable anyway, dude should drop his belt to avoid Spence and move to 154 facing guys like the light punching Smith and maybe rematch and trilogies versus Dan and Bizier.

That's totally absurd, the comment, if he had faced a big puncher and got ko'd he would never would have faced GGG & lost the payday ...Thurman just looking to set something up for his next bout ...how about Thurman and Crawford???

agreed. Brook got the offer on short notice after negotiations with Eubanks fell through. If he had negotiated for a tune up fight in between the bout would have never happened.

Although I do like One Time being like, "ah gee whiz, from the bottom of my heart I hope Kell Brook doesn't have to see anymore punishing left hooks for pity's sake." That's just plain mean man.
