Saunders would have been a high profile fight and impossible to rest, and promote/train in 3 months for a legitimate MW championship fight. That fight sounds good for May

Lemiuex would have been a notch above Rosado/Monroe, also doable, but also farfetched to make for December and be 100%. Lemiuex is a decent C+ fighter that would get stopped by Canelo at 100%, but can give a tired burned out Canelo a good fight

Far be it for me to defend Canelo, but i did see him hurt his hand early on a body shot that landed on Smith's elbow and he did stop using it for about a round and a half.
