    One year on from floyd

It's been a year and a few days since he retired
Has it been for the better
    Or does boxing miss him

Feels the exact same. You can't expect major changes by removing one fighter from the pot. If Floyd was fighting frequently against top welters, then you would feel that void when he left seeing as how few of the welters today are fighting each other. But beyond the welterweight division, nothing could change elsewhere. Every division has its own story and most of them didn't revolve around Floyd in the first place. I guess if your view of boxing is narrowed to the welterweight division, you could rationalize good or bad change, but that's not boxing as a whole, nor has there been enough time to truly argue significant change.

edit: The only other thing I could add is, the era of boxing as whole is shifting, there are new faces, young potential, interesting matchups to be made at welterweight, but I don't think this renewed interest is because Floyd left, I think it's because the dynamic of the welterweight division was already changing to highlight the next best two or three 140-147 fighters.

Great fighter but i was longing for the day he and Pac retired as it was unbearable on this forum at times. Having to sift through threads and threads of their fans arguing to find something decent to read about boxing.

Seems that's been replaced by GGG v Canelo now though.

I don't think boxing has missed him though. He has nothing to prove and should stay retired. Pac should follow suit and stop being milked by Arum for every last drop.

It's a new era. We don't have anyone as good as Floyd, but there's lots of good fights to be made if people are willing to work together.

Boxing has never been about one guy.

And to think the sport would miss a guy so many fans have had negative things to say about (waranted or not) is kinda unrealistic.

That said, I think the sport does miss his hype a little...

I find it funny that Floyd is the most talked about boxer active or retired. I feel boxing has been on the downslide for a long time now. For years people have said boxing was dead and although that is not true boxing has been on the decline in mainstream popularity for decades now. The Mayweather Pacquiao rivalry gave the sport some life support but now that the rivalry is settled people have since moved on. Some have moved onto different sports and some have moved onto different fighters.

I think Floyd's talent and hype around him did give the sport a certain amount of buzz that it desperately needed but now that he's gone so is the buzz and excitement. Boxing has so many problems and Floyd was the least of it's worries.
