Roy doesnt have any comparable LHW wins. Closest is Tarver.

Virgil Hill is a hall of famer and was a top 175er over a decade...

          I'll explain

I chose no....Jones beat very good comp if not spectacular fighters

Virgil Hill may be the best lightheavyweight he faced....he also went on to win a world title at an advanced age at cruiser

Virgil Hill over 2 reigns had 20 defense and also unified....was also lineal before losing it to Michaelcewski

imo hill is underrated because he was not exciting or a puncher

He took Henry Maske undefeated record, beat other champs and titlists like Bobby Czyz, Marvin Camel, Leslie Steward, Lou Del Valle, Adolfo Washington, FABRICE tIOZZO, fRANK tATE in his prime only lost to Tommy Hearns...was getting up there in age when Dariusz Michaelcewski and Jones beat Him

even was a top ten cruiser and major titlist at an advanced age

he is now a hall of famer

Yes, it's a better win.. Roy's 175 era was extremely weak.

It's probably not as good as roys wins over toney n hopkins, but it's far better than wins over montel, gonzalez, Reggie, hill,, del Valle, woods..

Maybe roy beating Tarver the first time, is the fight that comes closest. But still, kovolev is a legit top p4p fighter in the world and tarver was not heading into the first roy fight

Ward and Kov aren't exactly spring chicken they are 32, 33 respectively...I doubt either guy is at their best physically but they are near prime like Hill was.

he was 33-34 and went on to win a title at cruiser and be a major player until the end of his career

              Hill is underrated imo

I say yes. Kovalev is more prime than any top 175 lb that Jones faced. You can make a case for Tarver and Hill but Kovalev has been more dominant

I voted yes it would be a better win than any Jones light heavyweight win. Jones was very dominant at 175 most of his reign. I think he could beat Ward. I don't remember any light heavyweight he beat who I think was as good as Kovalev and that includes Tarver. Ward has a very hard fight in front of him. If he wins it's a great victory and by far the best win of his career. Likewise a Kovalev win over Ward would be the best win of his career.

It depends how you view it.

In my opinion, Kovalev looks to be a better fighter than Tarver. Although I'd still like to see more of him. So if Andre beats him, you could say it was a better win. But you also have to take the following factors into account:

                    Roy was 35.

                    It was his 50th fight.

He'd had to burn muscle within a 2 month period just to make weight.

He made history by becoming only the 2nd fighter to win belts from MW-HW, before going back to reclaim the LHW titles.

Tarver presented him with a tough challenge stylistically, as he was a rangy southpaw with good speed.

In my opinion, had Roy beaten Tarver in 2000, it would have been a very good win. But it's the factors I've mentioned above that make it a great one.
