Comments Thread For: De La Hoya Agrees With Smith's Threat if Canelo Fails To Make 154

A few days ago, Saul 'Canelo' Alvarez (47-1-1, 33KOs) received a firm warning regarding his weight. Joe Gallagher, the head trainer for WBO junior middleweight champion Liam Smith (23-0-1, 13KOs), has made it clear that his boxer will walk away from the fight - if Canelo fails to make the junior middleweight limit of 154.

If canelo doesn't make weight. Oscar will just pay Smith extra to have the fight go through. GBP would lose a lot of money if this gets cancelled.

Trying to remember if Canelo ever missed weight up to this point. I don't remember that ever happening with him.

Angulo was supposed to be 154 afaik, ended up at 55. His vacant title shot vs welter scrub Hatton was signed for 150, he came 2lbs over

the hatton fight was the only time he missed weight on a scale, but that was a 150 cw for a 154 title, so he didnt officially missed weight as per the sanctioning body, but he did failed on the contracted weight, the angulo fight was a lil different since they changed the contracted weight the morning of the fight so that canelo dont have to strugle vs the scale, it still was lame and unprofesional even knowing it wasnt a title fight...

If I was Smith, I would never allow him to. Money doesnt solve the history books. Just like school, If you geet a 89.3 Thats Still not an A, this man better make the limit or there is NO excuse why he should not be fighting GGG. I can already hear the excuses.

***** Canelo will be coming in full if winstrol, growth hormone and diuretics, he will make the weight easily enough.

Canelo's neck looks longer, not good. Freddy Blassie had a name, pencil neck geek, implying weakness, a soft point. True, there is less resistance without all those neck muscles.

If Canelo fails to make the JMW limit then he's obviously a Middleweight so why delay the Golovkin fight saying he isn't a MW?

The fact is, he'll make 154 if it nearly kills him because fighting at 154 is his only excuse for not fighting GGG right now.
