does the switch from brawling to defensive responsible fighting mean we will see more

more fighters lasting longer in the sport? Guys like floyd looked great at 38, not to mention defensive wizzards like hopkins and rigo who still looks great with age, fighters who has a face first style like pac, marquez, mattyse, maidena and ruslan provodnokov all has a short shelf life because they are getting damage early on and the wear and tear gives them a faster decline...

these days as i see in my local gym these young cats is coming in with TMT gear on, (vast majority of them were massive floyd fans) and instead of trying to be brave and going in the gym for a street fight they go in the gym looking how to learn to slip punches like floyd and hop, how to dance like rigo, how to shoulder roll like money, i think its great that this new generation of fighters are going to be more defensive responsible and instead of that face first style wel see more of a tactican game with fighters using they smarts and feet instead of blocking punches with they face trying to act like this is some kinda rocky movie.

also the added benefit is that we will see these new generation of fighters lasting longer in the game and which means more fights from our favourates for a longer period of time.

Mayweather can't fight like LaMotta and LaMotta can't be Floyd!
If you want to fight you fight to your natural ability, physical strengths and learning comprehension.
If your Tommy Hearns your not taking on Hamsho's style, Joe Frazier isn't floating like a butterfly!

OP you make it sound like Bernard and Floyd were the first to be defensive minded. Theres NOTHING new in boxing, no new punches, moves, methods or techniques. In fact there are less used now than in the past with the absence of "in fighting" these days!

........"also the added benefit is that we will see these new generation of fighters lasting longer in the game and which means more fights from our favourates for a longer period of time".. ....absolutely false!
The newer generations have much fewer fights and hardly stay around like generations from the past.

Being defensively responsible is good for fighters who have the tools to do so. Partly its being taught but also having the feet, upperbody movement and reflexes to do so consistently. Theres some guys who just dont have the feet, speed or reflexes to have success in the ring. They have other attributes like power, stamina, chin, etc to find success.

However the sport needs its punchers, brawlers and swarmers to survive. The casual fan doesn't come to the sport to see responsible defense. They come to see knockouts and exchanges. Same way a casual football fan doesnt come to see proper tackling and checkdowns.

Offensive fighting is boxing as well you know. It's a highly skilled trait to have. A lot of the great offensive fighters also had great defensive abilities like Roberto Duran. Naturally they're going to get hit more than purely defensive boxers because they put it on the line. They also look more skilled and slick doing it like say a prime James Toney in full flow slipping punches and throwing counter combos like a Boss. Give me that over running and pot shooting any day of the week.

Being defensively responsible is a must of course, but offensive fighting is just as much a part of the sport as defensive fighting is, arguably more so. And just purely from an entertainment standpoint, I'll take an aggressor/brawler/swarmer/pressure fighter over a Floyd Mayweather type any day.

No. Even the most defensively responsible fighters can end up slurring their words and brain damaged.
