    Good read as always.

The gloves issue is interesting, for sure that needs to be looked at, maybe the rules modified so the padding has to be more evenly spread.

I agree with Bread, Lara deserves the payday. He didn't wait until GGG looked bad for 2 rounds before calling him out. But Lara could do more! He could have Haymon get him a fight with Quillen, which would be hot in Miami! Or he could have Haymon get him a fight with Jacobs! That would show that he's a MW, and if he beat Jacobs, he would become GGG's mandatory!

Love the mail bag, my only complain is it's not daily! It's not even weekly, but I understand this is not Bread's main job, he's a serious trainer with higher priorities.

Love the blend of his insight, boxing knowledge and objectivity. Good luck to bread and Jrock on their title pursuit.

Isn't that just punchers gloves vs defensive gloves though? Fighters can choose the gloves that best fits their boxing style. Boxers like Floyd with brittle hands, a shoulder roll defense, and big arms can wear really big defensive gloves that basically cover their entire chin, and body in the shoulder roll, and there is very little scoring area to hit. Meanwhile punchers wear tighter gloves but you will often see them get hit on the chin even when their hands are up next to their chin, because the glove is much more compact that it doesn't cover the entire side of their face like the big defensive gloves do.

I don't really have a problem with it so long as everyone has access to the same things. Like if you think one glove has less padding, and that's an advantage, then you get to wear it too, no problem. You both have the same "advantage." Obviously Wade didn't think a punchers glove would be an advantage for him so he chose not to. He chose a bigger defensive glove because his plan was to not get hit, and outbox GGG for 12 rounds, knowing he wouldn't KO him anyway. Andre Ward will most likely do the same against Kovalev, wearing big defensive gloves. In that case, it's almost an advantage for them. You know you don't have the KO power to KO your opponent, and they do have the power to KO you, so you get to wear huge defensive gloves that will make it difficult for your opponent to do what he needs to do to win the fight, which is inflict power, while not limiting your ability to do what you need to do at all, which is simply rack up points.

But of course, if the power puncher can get around those huge defensive gloves and hit you, then the fact he's wearing punchers gloves will help him do what he needs to do better, which is inflict that power.

So it goes both ways. Fighters get to choose the gloves that fit their styles the best, and this allows the defensive fighters to be better at defense, and the power punchers to punch with more power, and everyone to be at their best, and have more variation of styles, and so on. What's the problem? As for the custom glove fitting to a puncher's hand, why not? Basketball players get shoes fitted to their feet. Each baseball player has their own bat and so on. Why wouldn't we want professionals to be at their best, instead of having to wear stock gloves that never really fit anyone perfectly because they are massed produced for everyone, not specialized for each hand?

So I also have no problem for that. The only issue I see is if companies are willing to make a custom glove for GGG, but not for Wade because Wade isn't a star. But then again the fit of the glove being better for one guy pales in comparison to the actual purposeful A-side bull**** we've seen fighters like Mayweather pull in the past. I'd rather get to pick my own gloves, even if they're not custom fit, while my opponent also wears commission approved gloves that fit his hand better than mine, than not get to pick my own gloves at all because my opponent is mandating I use the worst possible glove type for my style.

Plus why wouldn't a glove company make custom gloves for any boxer appearing on an HBO level? It's more business after all. Wade probably just didn't want to pay $20,000 or so to go to the factory and have them measure his hand and create a glove for him, while GGG did. Again, it's their choice. Obviously GGG has more $ to work with but now we're getting into real tit for tat territory. If we're going to start cracking down on the advantages more marketable boxers have over less marketable boxers in this sport, I say we start with the judging, the favorable commission treatment, and all the ridiculous A-side demands, not this. This barely registers compared to all that.

If Lara could have beaten Jacobs that would have made a GGG - Lara fight way more lucrative and hyped, at the moment Lara is an unknown at middleweight. I don't see either fighter moving out of their division any time soon though.

If Lara wouldn't beaten Jo Jo Dan, Bizier, and Gavin do you think he would've gotten a shot?

Golovkin's gloves have been approved through multiple experienced commissions from NYSAC, CSAC, and most recently the BBBC. Highly experienced trainers from Buddy McGirt, Robert Garcia, Andre Roizer and now Dominic Ingle have inspected these gloves up close and have approved them without issue.

Breadman watches off tv and comes to the conclusion these gloves are suspect?

Remember when Floyd fought Zab? Both had the same sized gloves yet Floyd's looked like huge pillows while Zab's looked tiny!

Interesting read and something I never considered regarding the gloves. I don't think its a big issue but I look forward to his research results.
