You could see Brook was folding by the second in the 5th round, even if he was riding some shots. He was getting the fight beaten out of him. Even Hearn said by the 5th he could see Brook wasn't going to win the fight.
It's a hard call for the corner to make really. But if you can't see your fighter winning the fight anymore and already has major eye damage then pull him out. I'm sure in hindsight, someone like Gary Lockett would have thrown the towel in and saved Blackwell's career and not risked him fighting for his life. Not that i blame Lockett, hindsight is 20-20 Nobody can predict the future but things like that should make trainers realise it's not worth ******** with a fighters health if they see they cannot win anymore.
Obviously for the paying customer they want to see a knockout or something, but they're still men with families and a career to take care of.Comment

All im hearing is what if's and opinion's.
The point of the thread is: If a fighter wants to continue in a world title fight where he has a chance to go down in boxing history forever, should he not be allowed to decide for himself??Comment

This is true. Ingles wanted to protect Brook from further damage. No reason to continue the punishment. Brook made an excellent showing but the reality was that he was no match for GGG. When GGG was ready to finish it he did just that. Best competition for GGG to date though and a valiant effort by Brook. His right eye was badly damaged and he was just getting the will beat right out of him, GGG took a war to Brook and Brook couldn't keep up with it.
If his eye really is fxcked orbital damage etc I can't really blame him getting tagged there with such a hard puncher it's not good.Comment

Brook was hit a dozen times without even swinging back, and didn't contest either his corners decision or argue with the ref.
The ref can't overrule a corner without exceptionally good reason, and it wasn't there. Brook agreed with the towel.Comment

No because it was a freakshow fight to begin with. He went up 2 weight divisions and Golovkin was seriously ****ing him up on the ropes, he landed really nasty shots that had him on ***** street, he was finished, he looked like an opponent at the end of round 2 of a mortal kombat match. Not once in that fight did I believe that Brook had a shot at winning, ever since round 1 it felt that he was on borrowed time.
Watching at home you don't realize how hard those shots are because the crowd is so loud and obviously because its not you being punched, its Brook, but his corner knows exactly the kind of deep **** he was in.
I'm a huge Brook fan (and a GGG fan), but be realistic here.Comment

Listen, we all expected he would get KO'd right?
He was doing better than expected. right?
He was winning rounds. right?
He was the first man to ever back GGG up. right?
We're all watching for the possibility (no matter how tiny you think it is) that Brook can make history.
So why take the possibility away from him when a) he wan'ts to continue and is not hurt
B) is doing better than we all expected
Taking all of that away because of what if's is BS to me.
' u jus wana c da KO doe'
no.

Yes they can, ive seen it well over a dozen time's.
And no he didnt, his body language was the complete opposite to 'agreed' He held his arms out to say ' wtf ' that is the polar opposite of 'agreeing' ...
it was not a dozen times, ggg threw a dozen punches yes but nearly all of them missed...Last edited by mlac; 09-10-2016, 09:18 PM.Comment
