Pugmire: Sources say HBO won't pay for GGG vs. Jacobs

Hell man thats my issue & I've brought it up myself, but if there isn't anything that K2 & GGG has in their contract with HBO to contend with this sort of purse bid situation they or some third party would need to buy out his contract to allow for that situation to happen as HBO is under no obligation to look out for anyone but themselves as far as to their assets of which GGG is one of & lets be real there is little value to be gained for HBO, K2 or GGG in beating Jacobs.
I've been extremely critical of HBO as of late & things shouldn't work like this, but the reality is they do work like this as at this level of the sport things are more about dollars & cents than its about who's the best.Comment

I understand this type of opinion, but I still believe there has to be a internal debate for a boxer, his family & his team about taking a fight for a belt that you aren't being given the purse you feel the fight is worth. It's not fair play to Jacobs if he vacates or GGG if he vacates. These guys want to fight for titles they know exactly what comes with the territory. Which means mandatory's and purse splits. If you claim you want to fight for titles and unify the division you gotta have a clause in your contract that allows you to fight off network if your promoter loses a purse bid. Like Eubank Jr had in his first Sky contract and like Stevenson had in his contract when he signed with Showtime.
Sure there is legacy, being a part of boxing history & trying to achieve great things, but there is also the more basic desire to be given what you feel your worth, not getting screwed over in a business thats dying to screw over boxers & knowing the best move for you & yours.
And in Jacobs case if he gets the same offer for GGG as he got for Quillin or just doesn't get a nice bump from that payday I won't be happy the fight doesn't happen, but I can't blame Jacobs for not accepting a bad deal nor can I blame GGG for not breaking his HBO contract or HBO for not risking their asset by allowing GGG to fight outside of the HBO networks.Comment
