  • Comments Thread For: Arum: HBO Made Their Choice, Pacquiao Contract is Terminated

As BoxingScene.com previously reported, Top Rank is going to produce and distribute their November 5th pay-per-view event - which features the return of former eight division world champion Manny Pacquiao (58-6-2, 38KOs).

.... I thought the Ward-Kov fight was on the 19th?!?!?

Anyway, although Arum seemed okay with the decision, I can't help but to feel that he's a little butt hurt. Either way, I think that if a Pac fight was something people actually wanted to see, HBO would have found money, promotion, etc. to put it on. It's a series of unfortunate events for both sides, but fake retirements can lead to this sort of thing, I reckon.

Methinks this separation between Top Rank and HBO has been in the works a lot longer than the public realizes, or at least a lot longer than when it came to light.

Good for both sides. HBO won't have to put on anymore crappy in-house fights with Manny, and Manny can goto Showtime and have real fights with Broner, Garcia, Thurman, Spence.

HBO knows that Pac's drawing power has considerably dwindled and him fighting the likes of a Jessie Vargas isn't going to help bring in big numbers. Crawford was available and Arum chose not to make that fight. So now as a fan I choose not to support a fight that I have no interest in seeing!

Looks like the year is going to end with me dishing out for only 1 ppv. Kov/Ward! Keep up the good work boxing! At this rate, within 2yrs you'll be solely on some obscure cable channel that nobody knows about while UFC continues to kick azz!

Now let's see what HBO says. How ironic! For years. fighters have had their careers put on hold in legal battles with Top Rank because they believed their contracts were terminated, yet TR disputed it. Wouldn't be interesting if the shoe is now on the other foot!
