Comments Thread For: Gennady Golovkin Feels He Was Robbed of Gold Medal in Olympics
GENNADY GOLOVKIN claimed he was told he would not win gold at the 2004 Olympics. The Kazakhstan boxer lost the middleweight final in Athens to Russia's Gaydarbek Gaydarbekov. [Click Here To Read More]
Golovkin fought Gaydarbekov twice & was well outpointed on both occasions...
Might of been different in a longer fight where he could wear him down - but Gaydarbekov was simply too clever for him in the amateurs...
Firstly it was close but i thought the Russian did just enough. Secondly said Russian was Gaydarbek Gaydarbekov one of the best MW amateurs of his generation. Beat the likes of Jermaine Taylor, Jeff Lacy, Zsolt Erdei, Utkirbek Haydarov, Hassan N'Dam aswell as GGG!
He has also claimed this before David lemieux fight, he said it in the video there.
And people misunderstand. It's not just about being robbed, it's about being told that no matter what, he's not getting the gold.
Also to clarify the last sentence, when he says "if he won he would have been finished" , he's talking about getting killed if he went against the grain.

Why wasn't the article this clear? Someone needs to translate what Golovkin means properly.

Really? I assumed he meant that he would not have turned pro. He would've been taken care of by the KAZ government with a cushy government job and be set for life in a sense, like many of the Kazakh gold medalists.
This is probably about the only thing I will agree with. A lot of times the Olympic judges are paid off and cheat the fighters which I don't condone. If ggg does lose I would rather it be an honest loss than him or any fighter getting cheated.
Bad judging is one thing I strongly dislike about boxing. When Bradley got the win over Pacquiao although I was hoping Bradley beat him down, I was mad about the bs scorecards in my opinion.
