Ward, it could be that you haven't accomplished anything in the boxing ring since Super Six. It could be your arrogance in the belief that you can do no wrong. They say that you can't convince anyone of anything that they don't want to believe, and you are a living example of that. This interview is a prime example. A loss might go a long way toward helping you understand.

Within boxing he does get credit. He is recognised as P#P top 5 by just about all. I think he is meaning the wider media. But boxing is very much a "what have you done for me lately" sport. "Lately" he has a/ constantly sued his popular promoter b/ been relatively inactive and c/ fought 4 fights > Rodriguez/Smith/Barrera/Brand that are seen as detracting from his resume rather than adding to it.
Being a media idol is also to do with momentum and those 3 factors above took away a lot of the momentum he gained with winning the super 6.
That said, he has an opportunity now, 2 months away, from being able to regain all that momentum and some. He must know that and should stop whining, because that is what it sounds like. The time to whine would be in the imaginary situation that after beating Kovalev he still wasn't getting the acclaim he deserved.

WTF?!?! "MUH CREDIT, DOE"!
Dude - when you won the super-six, you got mad props. Yeah, you were called out for your head butting and clinching, but still, nobody denied your skill, and you were unanimously placed in the top 3 pound for pound.
You think people should still hold on to that almost five years, ago, doe?
You cleaned out your division, yeah, mad props... But you gotta do what all the other greats do! MOVE UP and take on bigger challenges.
You pouted and acted like you deserved 2 million dollar tune up, after tune up.
Wow... Never have I heard a boxer be so whiny, and unappreciated.
It's like once you accomplish something great, you don't need to do anything else to keep getting continuous props?

A Brit fan once told me verbatim "If Andre Ward was British, he would be worshipped" and I believe it's true.

We know why BROTHER...Donald trump says there is something wrong with America, Kapernick says there is something wrong in America, guess who gets criticized for saying something about it....You win a gold medal, you win the super 6, you go undefeated...you get criticized for it, we know brother! THEY can deny it all THEY want, WE KNOW WHY BROTHER!...THEY were raised that way...the bundy brothers take over a federal building with guns, Kapernick sits during the national anthem....his constitutional right...guess whos the villain...A certain president...our country is attacked on his watch, economy crumbles, unemployment balloons to over 9%, loses jobs at a rate of 750k per month, the others unemployment rate is at 4% with 70+ months of job growth, guess which one is the villain, Brother. WE KNOW WHY! TRUST ME, WE KNOW WHY!

It's only because of his nonsense with Goossen, the long layoff because of that nonsense, and the subpar competition since that he again sees widespread criticism. If he beats Kovalev, most of that criticism will disappear and Ward will again be one of the darlings of the boxing world.
