The problem is that Ward confuses credit with accolades. He gets credit for beating these guys. He was supposed to beat them and he did relatively easily. And that's what he deserves. There were no perceived challenges in the last few years in his match-ups. And there are/were perceived challenges out there. Problem is, they were never secured, for one reason or another. So he doesn't get fantasy wins over those people. That, alone, would be accolades, and false accolades at best. But looking at who he's beaten in the last few years and how, I simply cannot think that highly of him. Does he have skills and has he shown to be crafty in the past? Most definitely. Arguably among the best. But now, he simply wins (and not even by blow-out) against sub-par competition and wants to ride on the coattails of his previous achievements of the Super 6 from years ago. I can't give accolades for that.
At this point, he's gone back to being untested potential.Last edited by 1nonlymre; 09-07-2016, 02:31 PM.

It's only because of his nonsense with Goossen, the long layoff because of that nonsense, and the subpar competition since that he again sees widespread criticism. If he beats Kovalev, most of that criticism will disappear and Ward will again be one of the darlings of the boxing world.

Originally posted by 1nonlymre View PostAgreed, with the addition that he must beat Kovalev convincingly! It cannot be close or he will likely come out looking 'lucky'. But let's play devil's advocate and say he beats Kovalev convincingly, he must then continue to challenge himself with undisputed unification and contests against perceived threats out there, or multiple defenses. Otherwise, he falls right back into obscurity, losing belts one by one due to inactivity or defense of the belts.
If he wins he'll have 3 of the 4
