Comments Thread For: Andre Ward Doesn't Know Why He Doesn't Get Credit He Deserves

Andre Ward can't quite pinpoint why his critics haven't given him the full credit he believes he deserves. The undefeated former super middleweight champion admits, though, that he spends a lot less time these days worrying about what they think of him. Watching boxing predecessors experience similar struggles with sometimes-fickle fight fans and media has helped him come to terms with whatever skeptics think.

Ward got every bit of the credit he deserved at the time of his biggest accomplishments. After beating Dawson (his last noteworthy fight), he was on the cusp of stardom, with there even being arguments that he should be ranked p4p #1. Everyone was on his side.

It's only because of his nonsense with Goossen, the long layoff because of that nonsense, and the subpar competition since that he again sees widespread criticism. If he beats Kovalev, most of that criticism will disappear and Ward will again be one of the darlings of the boxing world.

History shows that if an African-American fighter wants to become very popular, i.e. sell tickets, it is much easier if you play the role of villain.

Honestly it's because he's nice and Black. If Ward went to Golovkin's gym or tweeted he was a coward he would have got 5 million dollar payday.

The layoff in his career don't help and he don't KO ppl. He just got to keep winning especially if he pulls the win agains Kov the sky will be the limit for him. But if he wins a very boring fight it will be more of the same

I think Ward doesn't get the credit he deserves because he was inactive for those 2 years he was in a contract dispute.

Of all active fighters he has a Top 5 resume. However right when he was starting to get that HBO push he disappeared and others who aren't as talented took his shine.

But if he beats Kovalev their is no question that he is the best fighter in boxing PERIOD.
