A manager will never put his fighter the ring with someone he can lose to, unless he's cashing him out or if it's someone on the same stable.

You think Vargas was Pacquiao's first pick?

Or do you think they tell them its time to cash out??

Personally I would think a fighter would have more pride than to listen to these sorta things but Im beginning to think this is the era we live in...
I think it depends on the relationship they have with the boxer.

In certain cases where they have a relationship on a personal level, aside from business, I have no doubt they straight up say "ay man, stay away from him - he's a killer." Even then, I still doubt they are "brutally honest," and tell them straight up they have no chance.

I think most managers, though, with a strictly business relationship, would advise the boxer in a way like "stylistically, I don't think this is a good fight for us at the time; down the road we will take him on - there are better options available right now."

I actually do think it was. I dont think Pac wants to have to chase a fight. Hes to old to cut off slick opponents like Terrance Crawford. Big mistake though, Vargas is gonna hurt the PacMan.

Doubt it. Pretty sure he'd rather fight Garcia.

Randomly I'd loved to been a fly on the wall when Hearn sold Brook on the GGG fight. I personally feel like thats a cashout fight for Hearn with Brook, but obviously Hearn had to spin that fairly well I'd assume.
actually brook went to hearn asking for the fight when eubank stalled

Al Haymon told Santa Cruz that the Rigondeaux fight "would not be an exciting fight that would be good for the fans" or something like that. They just word it nicely

Manager to client: I think we should let this fight marinate a little bit more. Down the road it will be HUGE and you will make double the money.

Manager thinking in his head: Let's hope he forgets about this fight or something better comes up cause he's got no fkin chance in hell.

Depends on the guy, sometimes guys need it told to them bluntly while others can take a subtle hint.

Generally speaking it is better to have a boxer confident and think he is King of the Earth even if he is not all that good that belief can go pretty far. Breaking that confidence is generally not worth it so treading lightly is generally required. Still if a guy needs to be told so he doesn't have to be shown the truth that is better for that guys confidence.

This falls under the job of manager to act in your clients best interests.

That's why Mick is the GOAT. He told Rocky straight up that Clubber would kill him inside of 3. He knew the truth. Bet he laughed his ass off from heaven after that fight.
