Canelo can fight anyone and make big money because he and Golden Boy control the promotion. Not to mention the fact that any other fight wouldn't be as risky.
Leverage is all about who has options. GGG has no one he can fight to make more than he is making now. He is the B side to a WW who's biggest win is against Porter.
Canelo is only 25, he can fight anyone he wants and make more money than GGG will ever hope to make without a Canelo payday. Its why GGG and K2 changed their tune from "we don't care about Canelo or Cotto, we just want the belts." to now being desperate and thirsty for a Canelo payday. They know their time is running out.
And like you said yourself its not like Canelo/GGG is guaranteed to do a million plus PPV buys. It will probably just outdo Canelo/Cotto in the end. This fight only happens when GGG takes the offer made to them and not a second sooner.

Team GGG got the belt, they don't care about Canelo anymore. Reporters just keep asking them about it. GGG knows Canelo doesn't want to get humiliated again. Canelo already showed who he is by his actions, his next PPV will bomb.

It's the biggest fight in boxing, canelo really has no big fight options outside of a cotto rematch, but no fight will bring the cash like a Golovkin fight.. Oscar will buckle and ggg will get his split... 60/40 Canelo is fair, even 70/30 is reasonable,, but Golovkin gonna get a money split

Canelo is affiliated with 2.5 mil PPVs, 900k PPVs, 600k or 400k depending on who you ask and 300k in his 1st A side PPV. Golovkin+97k. I don't see an issue. When is this entitled mofo going to sacrifice to make a big fight happen like many others before him? Golovkin thinks he deserves 50-50, not even close.

I just want to see the fight. Everyone defending Canelo and trashing GGG never say anything about the actual fight - how Canelo may be able to win etc.....No, it's just BS about money and weight and blah blah blah. Take a look Mayweather-Pacquiao. It exceeded expectations in terms of PPV buy. If pac accepted a flat fee he would have been robbed of millions.

If Pac would've taken the flat fee he probably would've won that fight and the possibilities would have been endless. as opposed to waiting and taking the fight when he is declining.

Yet Canelo is still outselling Golovkin. Golovkin vs Brook is not an HBO PPV but Canelo vs Smith is, so no matter how poorly Canelo vs Smith does, it will still have more HBO PPV's than Golovkin vs Brook.

GGG gets nothing off the PPV, according to Hearn. They are paying him a fee plus he gets the US TV money.

If he is willing to take a flat fee to fight Brook on the UK PPV, then perhaps he will be willing to do same for Canelo.
