Do they look half a inch from the same height...? lol.
Canelo is 5'8'' tops....he is shorter than Floyd, though his big head gets him pretty close. Imagine what a long guy with a chin would do to him. I still can't believe those guys wanted to fight Paul Williams They may have thought that the brutal KO by Martinez ruined him.
I will say this, I think if Canelo isn't able to hurt or deter Smith from coming forward early, he is in for a long, tough night. Liam Smith comes forward with quality and shows some good angles up close, he can mix up body shots, uppercuts, and hooks in a hurry, and at a lower level he has been able to overwhelm fighters in the trenches, and so far he has had the chin to stay there and get his shots off, which is vital in that style and probably the important aspect in this fight...can he withstand Canelo's shots and keep coming?
Canelo will murder him at mid range, too much hand speed, speed of thought, and skills from Canelo at that distance, at times Smith will find himself there and get picked off, he has to get on Canelo's chest, that is where his fight is. Liam Smith's best chance is to gather momentum and slowly start leaning on Canelo (metaphorically) until he starts to fall apart and tire, he needs to outlast him and exploit his lack of activity and stamina.
IF (and that is a big if) Smith can walk through the shots, than his natural ability and size can give Canelo the fight that Angulo should have given him. We can really see a test of Canelo's resolve and see him pushed, personally I find this fight pretty interesting. Frank Warren who is one of the shrewdest promoters out there and has some of the best match makers in boxing, doesn't normally leave his fighters out to dry, obviously the fight is lucrative for Smith, but I don't think he would sacrifice him this early into his title reign unless he thought he had a reasonable chance in the fight.
Personally I see Canelo figuring this out and winning a tough but UD, or a possible late stoppage on cuts or facial damage. He will come through some sticky patches though, and will have to dig deep at times.
Only time will tell. I'm not sold on Smith at all. He looks too slow from what I've seen but it'll be interesting. I think his size gives him a chance but I think Canelo outclasses this guy. Smith doesn't have the punch variety to deal with Canelo's arsenal IMO
I'm not sold on Smith neither. But I'm sold enough to see that Canelo won't be able to handle this.
so ur gonna use a robbery as ur excuse when ur prediction goes to ****?
Do you deny the existence of robberies? And do you deny these facts:
1 - Canelo was Mayweather's easiest fight in years, yet one judge scored it a draw.
2 - Canelo was getting outboxed against Khan until the KO landed, but the judges disagreed.
3 - Canelo struggled against Cotto, but the judges gave him a huge victory.
4 - Canelo arguably lost to Lara and Trout, it was close fights, but according to the judges, Canelo was dominating.
Canelo always get a special advantage from the judges. Liam Smith will be the clearly superior fighter in this fight, but Canelo gets the decision and it will be a robbery and even you will STFU when it happens.
