    Outside vs Mid-Range

when does the line between these two ranges become blurred?

Other day someone mentioned Kell Brook prefers mid-range. I always thought he was an outfighter until then.

How far out is outside fighting?

Out boxers are guys like Lara and Rigondeaux. They prefer to keep their opponents at distance. Work behind straight punches and stay on their toes. Mid range guys tend to be boxer-punchers and power guys. Kovalev, Brook, Golovkin, Canelo. Those giys try to keep you in front of them at mid range so they can land with their power. Too close and that power is smothered. Too far and they lose the edge in power.

Outside fighter = spends most of the time out of range, mid-range = in touching distance.

      That's how i see it.

Outside fighters tend to stand moving backwards on the back foot....

Mid-range fighters tend to be more flatfooted and circle instead of going backwards

In other words it's not really dictated by how far away a guy is from his opponent. It more focuses on the tactics used. Most fighters tend to be mid range fighters. The outboxer and the in fighter are dying breeds as most guys aren't able to pull them off with high skill levels anymore.

Lara is an example of a outside fighter

Canelo is an example of a mid range fighter

Salido is an example of a inside fighter

I would consider floyd a mid range fighter overall

                  How do you see him?

I'd say fighting on the outside is when a boxer has full extension of his punches and is keeping his opponents on the "end of his punches".

Mid range is when a boxer is striking and has a slight, partial bend in their elbows and not being able to full extend their punches.

I'd say when Thomas Hearns stopped Pipino Cuevas he did so from the outside range.

When Mike Tyson dropped Carl "The Truth" Williams, he did so from mid-range.
