  • Comments Thread For: Frank Warren: Team Smith Comfortable With PED Testing For Canelo

Liam Smith's team is OK, at least publicly, with Canelo Alvarez not undergoing stringent VADA testing in advance of their September 17 title fight. Frank Warren, Smith's promoter, said as much during a conference call Thursday to discuss their HBO Pay-Per-View main event at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas. Smith, meanwhile, has been tested randomly by UK Anti Doping, a British Boxing Board of Control-affiliated agency many British fighters, managers and promoters consider the most rigorous testing organization in boxing.

Wtf! Canelo's only being tested by the Texas commission?
That's the same as no testing at all. Diuretics, EPO, and IV's galore!

Smith is being tested by UKAD so if he's on something we'll know within 18 months.

I can't recall a fight where the fighters were tested by two different agencies, probably using different protocols/panels.

No JMW should agree to fight Canelo w/o a rehydration clause. That's why I don't think you'd see Canelo fight the winner of J-Rock/Charlo, the IBF would limit him to a 10lb increase the afternoon of the fight.

The Texas Commission? Alvarez could walk into the ring with brass knuckles instead of boxing gloves and the Texas Commission would ok it. He is undoubtedly using a diuretic to make 154 and an IV to rehydrate.

Just like baseball owners in the 90's, they don't care what the athletes are using as long as they're making money

That Canelo money is the best. Smith doesn't care about the drug testing, the hometown advantage, the rehydration, nothing. He doesn't care if Canelo gets lap band surgery. How many millions is Smith getting?
