Comments Thread For: Martin Murray Pondering a Return To The Middleweight Division
After a brief run at the super middleweight limit, Martin Murray (33-4-1, 16 KOs) is considering the possibility of returning to the middleweight limit of 160-pounds. [Click Here To Read More]
Sounds like Murray is one of those guys who wasn't made perfectly for either weight class, or maybe he just put on too much muscle. Lose a pound or two of muscle from where he was at 160, then he'll be perfect for that division.
GGG on the other hand obviously makes a great 160, but could probably be even a tiny bit better if the division limit was 159 or 158 relative to other guys. It's rare for someone to be the perfect size for a division... with divisions only 7 pounds or 8 pounds apart now, it usually just takes a little adjustment for fighters to fit somewhere as "perfectly" as is ever possible.
But yeah Martin. You either need to bulk up more to be good at 168, or bulk down to make 160. One or the other! Maybe even bulk way down to 154... I hear Canelo is looking for opponents GGG has already beaten
He's on the wrong side of 30 to be considering moving down. Especially since he struggled a bit making 168. Trying to squeeze back down to 160 is not gonna end well.
Murray's solid but nothing great. His best asset is his durability, his offensive weapons are pretty poor. For a strong guy, he doesn't hit that hard either.
I always thought he was better suited to 160, where his size could sometimes be an advantage.
He's a better fighter at that weight i feel, but if he was struggling with the weight, it may be hard for him to go back down now.
groves almost decapitated his head off at 168.......guys are too big and talented at 168. also he can't make 160. i don't know where he goes from here......
he should fight at 164 and be the official stepping stone for people moving from 160 to 168.
good boxer but lacks power to beat the top guys in either division so he may as well make money playing that role
