First of all. Kovalev was still recovering and was sick right at the fight.
Secondly, he never expected to blast out Chilemba. Home turf advantage is not an advantage for Kovalev. Listen to his intereviews, he prefers to fight away.
More importantly, you do realize this is his first return to the same ring where the last time Kovalev fought there... his opponent DIED a few days later from injuries from the fight?
That was a total mind **** I am sure.
Combine that with all of the media stuff he had to do for returning to his home town area..... and it is more clear of the entire picture.
If anything... the Ward fight will be a piece of cake for Kovalev, at least far easier than Chilemba.
you are dreaming
Firstly the death, I don't believe that was a factor at all..... not 1 bit.
I do believe that Kovalev may have been sick, which could have been why he looked fatigued at times..... they have not been caught lying to the public on multiple occasions - like a certain Team who shall remain nameless - so they should get the benefit of the doubt..... but that could have also had something to do with the movement, the high punch output, and the rare excursion into round 12 that he aint used to.
either way, it is ridiculous to compare Chilemba to Ward
the best version of Kovalev - which I think we will see - is a beast..... Ward will have his hands full, no question..... but you should check the headlines the next day before deciding if you want to watch it, there will be nothing easy about that fight

Ward has fought the very best since he was a young kid..... simply because he has been the very best, since he was a young kid.
Good luck finding someone to mimic Ward, because Chilemba wasn't it.
The most obvious notable career points..... Ward has adjusted to everything that was put in front of him, using a different style/gameplan for every opponent..... Kovalev stuck to a GREAT but simple gameplan to neutralize old man Hopkins, and was too much for everyone else.
I pick Ward to rise to the occasion, AGAIN.
Early, I see a very technical - somewhat ugly - fight..... with Kovalev using a similar gameplan to what he used for Hopkins..... fighting tall, patient, behind the pole, and looking to step/rock back whenever Ward looks to initiate..... with Ward being super-patient, establishing his own perimeter, and going after Kovalev's jab.
Ward will either be just outside Kovalev's jab looking to counter, or his head will be firmly planted under Kovalev's chin, looking to make an investment..... and Kovalev will be forced to fight whenever he looks like he needs a rest.
This will be an close/ugly fight I think.
Best of luck to both guys.
May the best man win.

IT was a huge factor. Just watch the documentaries on youtube done with Kovalev. He even tells you about how much pressure that death plays on him.
It is in english.

It may be silly, but one of the major reasons I'm going with Kovalev is because Ward looked like crap after the Barrera fight. Sullivan landed something like only 15% of his shots, majority of which were jabs. But here's how Ward looked.
If he takes that much damage from Barrera's jabs, I don't think he'll be able to handle Kovalev. My 2 cents.
I don't think fighters like Ward are easy to assess on a fight by fight basis. They have a varied tool box, so they have various means of neutralising their opponents. You can't just say they're incapable of doing something because it didn't come up in a fight because their game plan isn't built on doing one thing exceptionally well.
