can top fighters go years without fighting anyone who can fight back (e.g andre ward), yet raise their game when it matters against a top fighter like kovalev? Or does five years of fighting noone with a pulse reduce a fighters skill levels that significantly? i.e is ward going to be the same ward who was fighting world level opponents in the super six? Please discuss...
andre ward- does inactivity/weak opposition matter?

Ward is younger than GGG with a far better resume. -
yeah, in other sports that i follow 'match fitness' is a massive thing i.e you only get to be your best by facing quality opposition that tests you. I think the same must apply to boxing too.Comment

We'll see (this also applies to Mikey Garcia). I haven't really watched more than a couple rounds of any of Ward's last 3 fights because they were uninteresting and unwatchable (to me), but there are some people that swear he has lost some movement and his technique doesn't look as sharp.
But I do think he has a good chance to beat Kovalev. It is a 50/50 fight in my opinion. Can Ward take a flush shot from Kovalev? Can Kovalev hit Ward clean enough to cause any damage? Can Ward take advantage of Kovalev's habit of jumping back to reset himself after throwing a couple power shots?
But the most important question is what the ref will let/will not let Ward get away with?
Also, Kovalev needs a full camp with John David Jackson...I believe he has only used DJJ for the 2 weeks in each of his last 2 fights. Against Ward, that **** won't fly.Comment

looks like he has evolved and fights more cerebrally than physically if you get my drift.Comment
