Comments Thread For: Despite Backlash, Luis Ortiz Envisions Brighter Future

By Jake Donovan - It was perhaps the most difficult decision Luis 'King Kong' Ortiz had to make in his pro career to date, one where he was well aware of the negative backlash once fully executed. The unbeaten heavyweight and his team have spent the past several weeks contemplating a way out of a co-promotional contract with Golden Boy Promotions, a deal which was finalized earlier this week...

great decision. He is gonna bring the HW division back. Just have to rid out the fakes like Wilder and Fury and beat Wlad by KO.

I wish this man well. He seems like a decent, hard working guy. I don't know if he's the best heavyweight out there, but Ortiz's name has to be in the discussion. If nothing else, he's definitely one of the most exciting heavyweights in the game.

The only fighter that wasn't scared to fight him was Andy Ruiz

Ruiz doesnt need Luis Ortiz problems. Not a good choice.

Drug cheat whose next fight attracted a top purse bid of 600k and now he has to fight in Russia

He is old for a fighter and will spend the next few years paying back his management anyway

                What a dumbarse

A shame for him that Haymon has stopped signing up so many fighters. Maybe there's still a deal to be made there, with Haymon or Schaefer's new company he can have a good performance on Showtime and work towards a fight with Wilder or Joshua. Not heard any rumours of him moving in that direction though.

It just seems like his only chance of getting Fury/Joshua/Wilder to face him is if he's mandatory. He's already part of the WBA mix, as bad an organisation as they are he seems best off sticking with that, the WBC have a situation of their own (Povetkin-Stiverne to see who faces Wilder, who is injured) and the next IBF mandatory after Parker won't be for over a year so there's no short road to a big fight for him.

If he goes to Haymon then fair enough, but Arum and Hearn won't sign him and it seems you're better off having a big/connected promoter in your corner when trying to get HBO/Showtime exposure, enforce a mandatory or get a big fight. Maybe he'll go to RN as part of the deal to be on the Kov-Ward undercard but they've not solved Rigo's career problems so far.
