Conor went up 25 lbs and fought a guy bigger, that would be like Floyd fighting Kovalev, when Conor lost he wanted an immediate rematch at the same weight. Thats BALLS
Conor challenges himself, Canelo vacates for a guys GGG smaller than him on fight night.
Conor looks like a warrior, Canelo a *****
and i a boxing fan, and embarrassed
What he did was more like a 115 fighter somebody like Chocolitito moving up to fight Micky Ward, somebody tough but beatable.
Kovalev is a killer and a champion at 175. Nate is a gatekeeper.Comment

Instead, what Canelo (and/or his management) are actually afraid of, is damaging their brand. It seems that boxing (hell, athletics, in general) are going the way of the music & film industries--purely corporatized.
And the contractual overlords will not allow fighters to choose their own opponents until audiences learn to vote with their feet.
But there's lots of morons who buy into nonsense, like cinco de mayo mismatched fights because, you know...cinco de mayo.
What fighters, themselves, are most likely afraid of...it's getting sued & blackballed to the Lou DiBellas of the industry.
I'm not a huge fan of Floyd's defensive fighting style after he hurt his hands, but he laid out the blueprint for future fighters to follow. And Conor is wisely standing on the back of that giant. And Nate's taking cues from Conor's independent marketing strategy.
Woo! (in Ric Flair voice). Gotta love the meta-fightLast edited by nveleven; 08-26-2016, 07:02 PM.Comment

I'll bet they have similar DNA sequences. Canelo is for sure a cherry picker in some ways, I think it's more of the fact him and his team are TERRIFIED of larger fighters.
Name a fight where Canelo didn't have a significant size advantage? Canelo would never do what MCgregor just did. It would be like canelo going up to 168-175 and beating a top 5 guy, unreal.Comment

Connor would destroy Canelo in a MMA fight or street fight, connor can grapple and wrestle and strike. Canelo wins in boxing.Comment

"Where do you draw a line on significant advantage? 5+ lbs.? 10+lbs.? 30+lbs.?"
Canelos is a deep chested stocky 5'9 frame with big bones. Built like a ton of middleweights of the past. He's been much bigger than all of his opponents by at least 10 pounds.Comment

So 10 lbs then ok. Are we discussing this based on provided fight night weights or the eye test? If we're going by provided weight then Lara, Trout, Angulo, Kirkland were all significant fights where he didn't hold a significant size advantage. He outweighed Lara by an enormous 5 lbs which was his biggest advantage.Comment
