Classic fights any diffrent with current rules.

i was watching some old fight and saw a couple guys get up after being down in 2 seconds and start fighting right away. this got me thinking, If the rules we have 2day, all of them, were being used back then would it change any major fight. witch ones would be changed?

If there was no standing 8-count back in 1991, Evander Holyfield would have been TKO'd by Bert Cooper.

Also Jack Dempsey winning the title would have taken a minute and a half longer.

People don't respond to this thread because they don't want to think too hard.

From what I hear, Jim Driscoll would have beaten Abe Attel if the bout had been using modern rules.

Not the rules so much as the speed with which they stop a fight now compared to then. Also, the time between fights, etc. The main rule change affecting the outcome of championship fights has been the reduction in rounds.

I think alot of great fights would have been stopped. They seem hardly as quick to stop **** back in the day. There would be alot more Corrales/Castillo I and Brewster/Lyakovich fights if they let fighters keep going until either the corner stops it or he is clearly out on his feet.

They protect fighters a lot more nowadays. Hopefully that means boxers, in general, will not die as early as some used to, and that they will retire with most of their mental faculties in good shape.

I think many old fights would have been different. It seemed like guys would get up and start fighting right away without having taken a full count. A lot of damage is done to your brain after that first knockdown. Your brain is trying to tell you that you should run, and heal. Boxers ignore that warning, and they used to get knocked down an obscene amount of times in a fight before they'd stop. I think with more time to recover, more fights would have gone the distance, especially if they were fighting 12 instead of 15 rounds.
