From what I've read, many Cuban amateur fighters are nicely compensated for staying loyal to Cuba. Obviously not the riches of the pro game but a good living, problem is, pro sports money is huge...then again these guys have to sacrifice family and home. Will Ramirez do that?

The boxing enthusiast in me would love him to try and do something that Teofilo did. 3 Olympic golds, 3 world champ golds and 2 at the Pan Am games. Ramirez is fighting in a weaker division to Teofilo's heavyweight divisions at the time but it would be remarkable.

Shiming is the most overrated fighter in the history of amateur boxing, he abused the electronic system, he would be dead in this days and before the 92, he was awful, robbed many fighters in london, nothing impressive in beijing, just an average fighter who was familiarized with the system.

Teofilo beat almost every fighter of the 80's era of talented but lazy heavies.

I think winning gold 3 times at the lighter weights is more impressive than winning it at heavy or superheavy. The talent pool at the higher weight is no where near the lower weight classes.

Just look at these lumbering heavies. Even at 81 you see La Cruz head and shoulders above everyone else.

The talent on the other hand at 52, 56, 60 is much better.

That depends of the opposition in the tournament itself, 91 was much more impressive than 52 in london, this year 52 was the deepest division and 91 was a 4 men tournament practically.

Not really, the skill level as a whole is always higher at the lower weights. Even when in a particular tournament a 91 + division is loaded with talent. The skill level on a pound 4 pound level can never compare with the lower weights. Like 81 - who is there De La Cruz 91 - I'd say Tishenko, Levitt and Savon and they are not all that - 91 + there is nothing to say really. Joyce will probably win it that's all we need to know about their skill level.

People tell him to turn pro but after seeing how the pro game treated Rigo, Gamboa, Lara, Abril, Ortiz, etc. what does he have to gain?

These dudes are inactive and can't get enough fans to support them. If he's happy where he is let him be.
