Floyd's guys get pushed too hard too fast on average it seems. Floyd is legit trying to find the next Floyd & isn't capable of seeing that there are more not-Floyd's than Floyd's around so he's basically not marinating any of his boxers for success later on like they could be capable of & they are basically just looking at careers as the next Ishe Smith when they are 32 years old with 6 L's & not as marketable. Granted the sport SHOULD work like Mayweather Promotions does things with matching guys tough, BUT the reality is its going to impact Mayweather Promotions bank account long term in a negative way I feel.
I think that that's a mis-characterization of the situation; if Davis and his camp feel that he's ready, I think Floyd has made the concerted decision to not step in the way of the kid's dream.

Floyd took his time with Badou Jack and, after an initial setback, Jack got to a world title and title defense; J'Leon Love, Ronald Gavril, Kevin Newman II, Maurice Lee, and a lot of the other younger fighters under his banner are getting moved along at paces that seem to fit with their own progressions (with a few fighters already having stepped on banana peels and in the rebuild).

If 'Tank' Davis is good enough, he'll show out in the fight; if he's not, it's not like Floyd is going to abandon Davis. Everyone will take a step back, Davis will get the experience that he likely skipped over, and he'll hopefully get another shot.

Floyd is betting on his ability to find talent good enough to make it through the type of road that he went through; if the talent makes it through, Mayweather Promotions ends up with a well-rounded top fighter that they can put in with whomever makes business sense, without worry about how good the other guy actually is at fighting.

I'm not saying Davis isn't pushing for bigger & better fights only that it seems to me either Floyd isn't as good as he thinks in picking talent cuz his guys catch L's quicker than most other promoters prospects or he's pushing them too quick into better opposition. Sometimes a promoters job entails slowing guys down.

And thats not to say I'm against this cuz anytime a fight gets on the schedule that has me really thinking about whats going to happen I'm a fan of that fight so I'm pro aggressive boxer career progression it just isn't something you see that much in the sport although there is a solid argument its becoming something thats happening more & more with several of these elite level amateurs who are fringe contenders to legit contenders or better inside of 10 fights.

Floyd got his first title shot, as a voluntary opponent for Genaro Hernandez, in his 18th fight (and likely was calling for the fight sooner than that). I think it's fair to say that Floyd isn't inclined to go against a fighter who thinks their ready (however long it takes him to then secure that title opportunity/eliminator is another conversation).

Why wait till a prospect has 20-30 fights when, if matched appropriately, you can have a pretty good gauge of what you have by 15-20 fights?

Floyd's got a relatively young company, with this current Olympics really the first time that Mayweather Promotions is going to be openly competing for the top talents (against Top Rank, Golden Boy, Matchroom, Sauerlands, etc); all the current talent on his roster are either guys who he brought in for sparring who he determined could fight or young fighters who made the trip to Vegas on their own, impressed in the gym, and word got back to Floyd.

For the quality of talent that simply just shows up in a gym, being able to have developed three world champions already is a pretty decent go.

I think Davis beats Sosa, but will he be able to handle the other guys around that title - Corrales, Fortuna, Walters? Hope so, b/c he'll make a great opponent for Lomo.

This is interesting. I figured Davis was settling in at 135, but I guess this means they plan to have a bit of a run at 130. This is a huge step up for Davis, too fast imo. He hasn't been in with anyone close to Sosa's level and if he wins he's really gonna find himself in the deep end quickly if he's fighting the top guys at 130. Not sure how this fight will go because Davis is very talented, but I lean towards Sosa out-boxing him to a decision win.

Floyd is a ruthless sort of promoter, nothing soft about him. He's scarier here than he was in the ring, Don King might have a successor. Me? I like it. Why nurse a guy beyond weaning, see no improvement fight another bum? In wine growing they stress the vines, work them by planting them on hillsides, where it's hard to grow. Hard by design. It doesn't produce a lot, but it produces the best.
