Why not Oakland or other sites that have virtually no world class boxing, try Florida, can't remember when a meaningful title fight was held there and I don't mean that 1 w/ wCotto a couple years back...

Florida's a possibility but both fighters agreed last year that the fight would be neither in CA nor Russia. I do hope they can resolve this matter soon so they can begin to promote a big fight with fighters that have not so big fanbases. Id hate to see similar numbers to the Crawford-Postol fight.

if MGM is putting up a decent site fee then going to MSG would be moronic. Even if they could do a better gate there (which is NOT guaranteed since neither guy is a big ticket seller) it wouldnt be enough to offset the income taxes NY charges.....

Because Oakland gives Ward a hometown advantage. Kovalev is the three-belt champ, why would he give Ward an advantage? It's not the crowd that would be the problem, it's all the potential corruption that goes on. Floyd benefited from it in Vegas when Pacquiao couldn't take legal medicine for his shoulder injury but Floyd was allowed an IV that is illegal under WADA rules, not to mention Kenny Bayless favoring him the whole fight letting him hold as often as he needed to, so that would be my concern with Oakland. In Oakland Ward would probably get to pick the ref and 2 of 3 judges himself.

I just want a fair fight on an even playing field. I have no idea where that would be more likely to happen, Vegas or New York. I'd guess New York after what happened with Floyd in Vegas, but maybe that's just for Floyd... All I know is Oakland is a bad idea.

kkkovalev has no fan base! His last fight in vegas had 3000 people with probably a 1000 tickets given away at the MGM for free! Oakland or new york will sell the stadium out!

Kovalev hasn't any real fan base other than hardcore boxing fans which is exactly why he fought Pascal twice for the numbers he could never generate of his own. Like Golovkin he keeps having to face the likes Lemieux's, Brook's and Cameltoe's.

This however is unimportant, it is a fight genuine boxing fans want to see, obviously their are a lot of Golovkin fan boys are desperate for it not to take place but we don't care about fan boys, we're the real boxing fans.

I think Vegas would be the best option, Ward will bring a large contingent from Oakland, hardcore fans will fly in and I'm sure Kovalev has amassed a thousand fans prepared to follow him across the country. I believe NY would not be better than Vegas as the Ward support would unlikely be able to afford the cross country jaunt. Financially this makes a lot more sense in Vegas from IMO.

Vegas or NY please. Nothing against Oakland, but I just like to see mega fights happen in true boxing locales. But as long as it takes place I'm happy.

The fighters would have to pay more taxes, so I don't see why they would sign off on that. The fight taking place at T-Mobile would likely benefit both, particularly Ward's west coast fan base.

I didn't know 150 fans is considered a Large Contingent but hey if that's what it is! Ward can't draw flies to scat even in Oakland! The guys style is boring and he has no power or pop! Unless you want to see Ward headbutt, hold and run all night his style is awful and largely the reason he has NO fan base! I'll be glad once Kovalev retires Ward permanently by brutal KO!
