Comments Thread For: Kovalev's Coach: Ward's Prime is Gone, Now He's Facing a Killer!

Last June, Andre Ward (30-0, 15KOs) returned to the ring for the first time since November of 2013, and even that fight took place on the back of a layoff that was over a year in length.

Those are some fair points. Ward isn't no spring chicken anymore.

I believe it's just about how long has slickness , cunning & boxing skills will last him. of course you can go punch for punch with him But Ward is quicker & should b able 2 get his punches off quicker ...going to b interesting tactical bout...

Didn't look sharp at the beginning of the barrera fight, looked shaper the second half of the fight, looked MUCH sharper in with a guy who seemed pretty durable, but imo Ward needed the 12 rds. If Jackson truly believes this, it could be a serious mistake.
He may not have as many fights as Kovalev, but he actually has 2 more rds than him vs kovalevs last 3 fights.

It's actually true. But how old is Kovalev? I think 33?
In other sports the prime is actually 25-28 years old. But in boxing, because boxers no longer fight as often as they did 50 years ago, because they are protected by managers and promoters, because losing the '0' has become such an issue, we see that many boxers don't have enough pro experience until they are past their prime years and don't get into big fights until they are past their prime years. I mean, what was Brand doing stepping up to fight Ward at 39 years of age? He should have retired years ago. Gonzalez is a great example of a fighter doing great things in his prime.

I'd say that was because Brand is 2 levels below Barrera so Ward could do what he wanted when he wanted. Brand was very brave and moved backwards a lot and swung wildly and has a great chin - what more can you take from that fight?
