Lool Ward can't win these guys...
Gives a respectful post fight interview with Kovalev: This guy is boring, the PPV will bomb.
Says something nationalistic to stir up interest in the fight: This guy is racist, why did he say this.Comment

Are they going to try to play the Cold War card to market this fight? Someone needs to tell Ward, that the Cold War died with the Soviet Union. Perhaps what Ward really means is that white Caucasian fighters are taking what has been seen as a Black African American realm for the past 50 years. It seems pretty obvious when you see that African American boxing fans tend to side with Mayweather, Ward, etc while whites tend to go with GGG and Kovalev. They should not play the race card either but they will and they will probaby do both.Comment

I did the same thing! I rolled my eyes like ohh GREAT!!! And then read what he actually said. Nothing racist, or even disrespectful. He's right they have exploded on the scene and are taking boxing from Americans. It's because their not LAZY, training harder, and want it more! Americans have too many other outlets. We usually lose our best athletes to other sports. And I can't really blame them. MexiCANS same thing as the Russians. They have no where else to go...When I read the headline I was like "oh O sht here we go! Ward learning to do that trash talk! Hyping **** up! Getting the hatred flowing!"
Then I read the interview... same old respectful Ward. Which I appreciate. I'd appreciate it more if his ****y behavior at other times didn't make it feel phony, but anyway. Point is, this headline is misleading.Last edited by Shadoww702; 08-08-2016, 11:34 AM.Comment

I swear some of guy get really dumb depending on which boxer is being quoted.
He was talking about boxing in the US! .... Is it wrong for an American boxer to think that the spotlight of Boxing in the US should be on American boxers? No.... It's a thing of pride.
In Mexico are there Ricans holding the spotlight? Nope
In the UK, the spotlight is firmly on British boxers. If in the future, let's say Australian boxers started coming through and dominating, then suddenly a big fight between the best UK fighter and Australian fighter got made in the. Would it be so crazy for the UK fighter to say what Ward just said?
You guys just love complaining and nitpicking everything that is said by someone you don't like.Comment

Whatever makes me feel better? You talk like I'm throwing some assumptions here or lying, it's a fact he's half Russian/half Korean, and it's not something I'm making up just to feel myself better, the facts are not supposed to make anybody feel better, you just have to deal with them and that's it. I don't give a **** about his ethnicity, but I can't go against the facts.
25% of population in Kazakhstan are ethnic Russians. They're Asians just geographically, but ethnically they're still Russians. If your birthplace determines your ethnicity, then I'm Asian as well. Just like a lot of Russians. I live in the city next to border with China, more eastern than India and other Asian countries, but that doesn't make me Asian ethnically, only geographically. I can't believe I have to explain these simple things
According to the same logic, Kovalev is Asian too
Nothing
Yeah, I feel the same way when people don't see a difference between ethnic Kazakhs/Central Asians and a mixed Russian/Korean person because they don't look identicalLast edited by g27region; 08-08-2016, 12:39 PM.Comment
