To be a flop, by definition, there must be expectations.

I don't think anyone was expecting GGG's first PPV fight to do more than 200k buys. You had a Kazakhstan dude who speaks English like Borat, and a French-Canadian who only fought on HBO like wot? Once, or twice prior? And who didn't even have an impressive undefeated record - think he lost to Rubio, and some other cat who is a journeyman.

I know for a fact that nobody expected Crawford's first PPV against a Ukrainian to do anymore than 100k.

If you look at the buy rates, there is still enough for decent purses: 150k x 60 = 9,000,000; 65,000 x 60 = 3,900,000. I mean, that's more than they would have made on regular HBO prolly. Or their guarantees were at least the same as they would have made on HBO.

So nothing really "flopped" to the extent people lost money.

What are we calling flops? Postol-Crawford wasn't expected to sell well at all. A flop would be Manny-Bradley 3 only selling like 300k. I'm pretty sure the promoters of Postol-Crawford and GGG-Lemiuex didn't lose any money

I would suspect that from a financial standpoint (profit/loss), Klitschko-Danny Williams and Pac-Bradley 3 were the biggest PPV flops of all time........

Depends what you mean by flops, absolute numbers or how much the promoter lost. The latter is definitely more important, so I wouldn't consider Crawford-Postol a big flop because I don't think Arum lost that much considering the low purses.

Don't know why Bob Arum thought that was a good idea.

Also Mayorga and Mosley 2 should be added to the list.

I believe so too... Both guys coming off of unexciting wins... they both have dry attitudes and are humble which is good personality wise but terrible if your trying to sell a fight... People need to see threats and brawls at the press conference. especially if your not knocking people out in the ring.
