Comments Thread For: Andre Ward is Serious About Doing a Fight - at Heavyweight!

Top light heavyweight contender Andre Ward (30-0, 15KOs) would love to accomplish his dream of having a fight in the heavyweight division. One of Ward's idols, Roy Jones Jr., fought as a low as junior middleweight and climbed all the way up to heavyweight in 2003 to capture the WBA world title from John Ruiz. Jones was a unified champion at 175-pounds when he made the big jump to heavyweight.

Pleaseeeee......he's short with no power.....so he's going to move to heavyweight and fights these gaints......if you're no packing power like tyson at that height, then you're just going to be a tomato can being kicked around the ring. The days of 205, 215 heighweights are long gone....if you're not aleast 6'2 then how can you compete.....and btw Roy Jones did have power against Ruiz....power and speed, so totally different from little ward

All the HW's now are giants. It's less glamorous, but CW is where the guys who used to be top HW's are.

Kovalev will kill him. Ward should have fought someone besides Gavin Rees for a tune up before Krusher. At least Broner won a title when he beat rees.

Ward had a very durable but poor fighter in front of him last night and he still got caught with clean shots if that was Kovalev or an heavyweight in there it would be lights out. What makes the Kovelev fight interesting is that Ward has got the power to hurt him and obviously K. has the power to put Wards lights out but Ward at heavyweight na, cruiser weight maybe against Bellew. Even 'small' heavies like Haye would put Ward away.

SOG needed to fight a rated light heavy, he has not. It's unfortunate that boxing is about money and not about working to get a title shot. Rules are in place but they are always bended. Public interest show not supersede integrity.

Ward is a great boxer. He should get his due once he fights and beats rated boxers in a said division...

Ward does not deserve a shot at the Krusher but it's what the public wants. It's a payday for both...
